And builds it right back up

Well, I suppose I should let everyone know what's been up out here in Slowvannah...We are finishing up the PINK living room in the downstairs of the house...it's too die for!  Sorry, there's plywood on the floor in the fireplace pic, but we are still working on stuff...we should be cleaned up and have a new picture of the finished product in a few days.  Lee is actually just as pleased with the color as I am, suprisingly.  Ummmmmm...the weather's been weird out here of late and we've been staying at home quite a bit.  If anyone still doesn't know, Lee and I swore off alcohol about 3 months ago and we're stickin' to it!  Lots more is getting done around here...We rebuilt the front downstairs porch, as you can see from the picture of lee...we completely ripped it out, repaired some beams under the house, rebuilt the porch framework, and layed the new floor plank by plank.  We still have yet to complete the downstairs bath, though it has made *some* progress.  Everything's still a mess and I'm swearing I'll never live inside another restoration again, however, I'm pretty sure I'll eat my words sooner or later.  If you haven't heard, word is we're headin' back to TEJAS *hopefully* in about 8 months.  shhhhhhhh...we can't let anyone in Savannah know yet...we are actively looking at older homes in New Braunfels, San Marcos, and, of course, A-Town.    We should see everyone during Thanksgiving, as we are planning a road trip back and I will be staying an extra week or so to hang out and check out some real estate.  WOO HOO!!!  One last bitlet...we are proud to announce the arrival of our newest sweety, Cous Cous, a stray cat that claimed our porch as his own and we just had to take him in...So now it's six cats, Anitolli, Gniles, Jezebel, Fritz, Coal Train, and Cous Cous, the 2 dogs, Pandora and Princess, and of course the chickens, Tulip-Julep the tiny banty and Bisquit the overwhelmingly large Aracauna.  Keep watching this site for more updates...we're working faster than ever right now!

The bathroom when we bought the house...YUCK!

So...we are finally done with the upstairs...aside from some painting and minor details that, according to the girls that we rented it out to, is A-OK with them.  So here are the pictures from the bathroom that was pretty much completely overhauled.  In short, we took all the fixtures out, except for the sink, tore out the floor (and unfortunately the ceiling in the bath below....), rebuilt the joists and subfloor, put in beautiful cobalt ceramic mosaic tile, painted the clawfoot bathtub a matching blue, re-chromed the feet, added a new toilet, new hanging light fixture, kept the old 1920s fixture over the sink, painted the walls sky blue, and we are in the process of painting the trim glossy white.  The hanging light is ultra fabulous deco; lee sent me out to buy a tiny little chandelier for the bath the other night, but when I saw this, I knew it was perfect.  You can get it at home depot for 25 bucks.  We have worked so hard.  Harder than I ever knew I could work on a house...for the last 2 or 3 weeks, I would get up at 8 in the morning and work until about 10:30 at night, only stopping once at 4 so I could eat and watch Trading Spaces.  Maybe I should give thanks and promote STACKER 2--THE WORLD'S STRONGEST FAT BURNER...or the world's cheapest and most legal form of speed...I couldn't have renovated 2000 square feet of house without it...hahahah!  Anyway, it's done, we have hot water once again, however, I don't have a bath in my bathroom downstairs, I'm still showering on the back porch, but seeing as it's 105 degrees and 200% humidity, it's ok, I guess.  Everything is coming along great, we are living in the world's biggest mess right now, but we are already hunting for another house to renovate...a little bungalow that we can turn in about 1 month for some cash...well, there will be more pictures posted soon and more stories about the craziness that is Savannah...people cracked out running through the street pounding on cars, talking to invisible other crazy people....what have I gotten myself into?  :)
Last week's entry:
Egads!  We have been without hot water for almost 2 weeks now!  We removed the old hot water heaters from the inside of the house and have placed them outside in their own little cubby, however, every electrician in Savannah is a FLAKE and for a week and a half now, they keep saying they'll show up...when in fact, they show up 2 days after they said that and then they say, um well yup yeah looks like Ahm (I'm--this is the deep south folks) gonna hafta run some conduit...and we say, great fabulous, you do whatever it is yer little heart desires, run freakin hot pink monkeys up the wall to hold the wires, just please please please run some freakin electric to the water heaters!  and then the electrician says, ok well then, Ah'll get somebody out here tomorrow to give you an estimate.  and lee and I  fall on the floor and groan and writhe because we can't figure out what this guy is doing in our house in the first place if he can't tell us how much it will cost.  and we say, we don't care how much it will cost, just put it in,,,just...run...the...wires!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is now thursday.  I took my last cold shower last night.  The plumber is coming, he says, on monday.  However, we are ripping out the clawfoot tub and toilet upstairs to put in yummy beatifulul ceramic tile since some previous owner had the lovely idea to tear out all the original marble hexagon tile.  in both bathrooms.  and then leave it in broken smashed piles under the house.  ugh.  ok, so we don't have any other tubs or showers in the house because we rebuilt the downstairs bathroom as it was...a disaster...to make an understatement.  so no more washy washy until the tiling is done upstairs and we can move the clawfoot back in.  i suppose we will be going to the beach every day or washing under a hose hanging in the tree in the backyard.  well.  so now you know...we are going insane due to filth, cold water, and lead paint poisoning, I'm certain.
